ZEPHYR-39 - 3D/2D Hybrid Anime Fighter

ARE YOU READY?

Set in the fictional city of Gale, ZEPHYR-39 focuses on a young girl named Yoko, who has entered the city’s semi-annual fighting tournament to prove her strength and win the prize money. Armed with her signature Wind Burst style, can she overcome the opponents that stand between her and her ideal easygoing life?

What is ZEPHYR-39?

ZEPHYR-39 is a fast paced 3D-2D hybrid fighting game with a Y2K style Urban Fantasy aesthetic, mixing the movement-based defense of typical 3D fighters with the high-flying explosive action of 2D Anime Fighters and Character Action games. At the press of a button, swap between the freeflowing ground movement of 3D weapon fighters and the high flying vertical action of anime fighters, all within one game!

Characters

Yoko - The game’s main protagonist and everyone’s favorite feline layabout, Yoko is a young girl that breezes through life doing odd jobs and taking it easy. When she hears about the prize money being offered for the city’s fighting tournament, she eagerly decides to enter for a chance to live even easier. Plus, it sounds like a ton of fun! Yoko is a well rounded character, using catlike agility and windy techniques to frustrate, outmaneuver, and outsmart her opponents.

Kotetsu - Quiet and straightforward, Kotetsu is Yoko’s mysterious counterpart, using a similar style of martial arts but with a more fundamentalist approach. Where she ducks, dives, and bounces around the opponent, this lone wolf stands firm like a mountain, using blasts of heat and strong winds to control and stifle the enemy. He’s also a longtime competitor in the Gale City Tournament, using the event as a method to test his strength and the strength of the other combatants, though to what end, none seem to know…

Tabitha - Don’t let Tabitha’s mildly cowardly demeanor fool you, this beautiful bat has a fierce bite to her! A member of a local street gang (or “community watch” as she and her friends insist on calling it), Tabitha enters the tournament on behalf of her friends in the hopes of using the prize money to help clean and fix up their neighborhood. A fast and dangerous opponent, she uses extreme speed and an arsenal of weapons fueled by her blood to chase down her prey.

TR-3NT - A public service robot that gained sentience and has entered the tournament to prove the strength of his own will. Known affectionately by those that know him as “Trent”, this powerful bot makes use of his strong arms to capture and pummel his foes with ease, and despite his large size, he can close in with surprising speed once he’s got his sights set on you.

Fionn - With hat pulled low and kusarigama in hand, this mysterious elven woman seems to have entered the tournament in search of someone - or something. In the arena, she can control wide swathes with her chain and sickle, and can quickly turn the tables on opponents who rush in without thought. Despite her shady appearance, she seems friendly enough, provided you don’t stand in the way of her target.

Marie O’net - Nobody really knows why this seemingly young girl has entered the tournament, but all who see her in action learn quickly not to underestimate her. Floating around with her lovely parasol, she overwhelms her foes with an army of diabolical plush monsters, laughing and taunting them the whole way.

Status / Latest Updates (2026-08-23)

Currently available is the initial Game Jam edition of the game, which contains basic versions of Yoko, Kotetsu, and the 3D-2D movement system. I am currently hard at work on an updated demo version to flesh out the two current characters with special moves and metered mechanics, as well as fixing certain QoL features (like control rebinding) and bugfixes. When that is done, we will move on to more characters, stages, and game modes (including arcade and story modes!). Please stay tuned!
